  • PB Residents are really quiet these days

Posted on December 12th, 2009 pbresident No comments

Well, now that we have our own town, seems that everything has gotten very quiet.  Seems nobody has issues with anything these days.  I hear the town hall is coming along and I see there is a welcoming on their website calendar.  I like the calendar, it is easy to see whats happening.  What bothers me is that once the PB town got started, everything here seems to have taken second place.  Is there no interest at all ?   I like the way the town website is posting all the ordinances and resolutions.  Makes it easy to see what they are doing.  They don’t have a blog and I don’t really blame them since the PB community has one.  So… lets hear some thoughts about our new town.  What is really happening ?   AND   Merry Christmas to all !

I see the town has a website now.  Great !  It is nice to be able to go to the website to see what is going on and be able to read all of the Ordinances and Resolutions being considered and passed by our new town government.  It is going to be a lot of work for those folks but from what I can see, they are getting on with the issues of town government startup.   I kinda like the idea of being part of a small town startup.  I hope they get lots of support.

I really thought i would get some feed back on my last BLOG, but I didn’t. So I got another it still isn’t to late to stop the Corporation. Don’t know if everybody has heard but Magnolia Springs has stopped there’s because they couldn’t afford it and they have way more revenue than we have. So you’ll better think long and hard.

To start off many others and I was stronglyagainst this hole Incorporation. First thing the bored members were pretty sneaky putting up the vote signs in the south part of town on a piece of paper that you had to get out your truck and read. Second thing Revenue what revenue what are you all gonna have bake sales. Thirdly Road upkeep and Town Maintenancewho is gonna do that and who’s gonna pay for it. You thought the county didn’t do a very good job, does anybody have any equipment for that. I forgot all this revenue we are going to have I guess will Pay for all of  this. My services are not to cheap as is everybody elses.  Last I’m still kind of confused about these elected officals 90% of them are family members and one of them I thought leaved in The City of Foley.

PS. Instead of monument at entrance to the Town of Perdido Beach you ought to put a TOLL BOOTH in for charging everybody coming and going like the Toll Bridge that help our revenue out.

  • What about a “Town of Perdido Beach” monument?

Every few days I’m hearing folks say, “When are we going to get a sign?”, or “We need a nice sign”. What about a monument? Actually we need two, one at Leiterman and Neumann and one at Leiterman and Faires Rd.   Anybody know a designer?  We have some ideas, what are yours? If you are interested, let’s talk.  We could organize a fundraiser to finance it.

I’ve already had offers to help finance it!  We can take our ideas to the Town Council. We need everyone’s help!

Who wants to play cards?  Pinnocle, eucher, bridge (I’ll have to learn it) (but I”m quick!) — I’m up for it.  I’d play poker too, but not for money (yet).

The Code of Alabama is one source of authority concerning streets and roads within a newly incorporated municipality.  Municipalities incorporated after 2004 must take over maintenance of their streets after a period of two years.  To see the Code, simply “google” Code of Alabama.

There are few regulations concerning negotiations between the towns and the counties as to what the counties are obligated to do.  However, if one looks at Magnolia Springs as an example, it becomes clear that Baldwin County is willing to negotiate fairly and in good faith concerning the condition of roads and streets prior to turning them over to the town.

In the talks between the Incorporation Committee of Perdido Beach and Baldwin County Engineer, the impression is positive that Perdido Beach also will be treated fairly.  In addition, the PBPORA Board of Directors have been active in “water access” issues for years, particularly during the trial process concerning Yupon Street Boat Launch and Bay Ave.

During the past year there have been issues with Cedar St., Magnolia St., State St., Orange St., Birmingham Ave., Yupon St., and Palmetto St.  Many trips have been made to Bay Minette by members of PBPORA to attend County Commission meetings that addressed these issues (the latest trip was Tuesday, June 9th).

There have been committments made by the Commission and the Highway Dept. to mark various streets to distinguish where the public right-of-way exists.  Also, improvements have been promised that will address the erosion issue on State St.  Hopefully, the committments soon will  be realized.

The Incorporation Committee is making note of all suggestions and ideas expressed to members of the committee and will pass them along to the town officials after officials are elected.

At the yard sale last year I had a conversation with Bob Gross about the status of road mainetnance after incorporation. I came away from that conversation under the impression that the county was required to bring the roads up to standard prior to passing the maintenance on to the township. Could someone please expand on that with some detail of how this works or at least where we can find the letter of the law on the matter? Time frame? What is “up to standard”? Etc.

We have had and continue to have red clay running into a wetland area we have in conservation easement. The county should fix this.

While this is a self serving request because I would like my road at least maintained and preferably paved, I am very much concerned about run off from State St. into Soldier creek. There have been sacks of concrete placed at the bottom by some concerned person unknown to me to stop the erosion, but if the county is on the hook we need to lay it on them. The runoff increases the turbidity in the creek and is really a violation of the clean water act. As this is the only semi-developed public access to Soldier Creek. It could / should be improved for the use of those who do not have waterfront property or common lot access. I am one of the latter so this one is not quite so self serving.

At the meeting the question came up on what to do with the excess funds that we donated for the incorporation, I would like my funds to first go towards a nice town sign on 97 and secondly towards improving the State Street water access.

I want the county to take my tax money from the last 10 years and fix my roads before they relenquish responsibility.

    Anyone else got any ideas????

  • Community Security

There have been several incidents in the community during the past two weeks - a house burglarized, theft of a county provided garbage container from another house, and a “drive through yard” incident by a golf cart between 2am and 4am, resulting in damage to an outside faucet (broken off – causing the home owner several hours of labor).  These are ones I know about – perhaps there are others?  We need to report all incidents to the Sheriff’s Dept., no matter how small!
