Greetings and Happy Forth of July,
-
You
may know already that Probate Judge
Johns issued the Order of
Incorporation of the Town of Perdido
Beach on June 10th.
So, officially we became a town on
that date.
-
-
Last week Judge Johns set the
date for the Election of Town
Officials. It will be October
6, 2009 - voting will take place at
the VFD. When the time comes
near there will be information
posted on the website and we'll send
you more information by
e-mail, concerning voting.
-
If you're a full time resident
living within the town limits,
registered to vote in Perdido Beach
(or Josephine if you live on Neumann
Dr.), you may be interested in
filing for candidacy as a town
official. Candidates
will file with the Probate
Office between July 13th and July
31st.
-
Attorney Jim Gaines of Magnolia
Springs will be leading an
instructional session
for persons interested in filing for
candidacy. The session will be
Monday, July 6th, at 6:30 at the
Perdido Beach Firehouse.
It will be open to the public
and everyone is invited to attend.
-
Please help us spread the word by
sharing this information with your
neighbors, especially those without
access to e-mail and the website.

- PERDIDO BEACH, Ala. —
Residents of this newly
incorporated town will
be going to the polls in
a few months to elect a
mayor and town council.

Elections Office is as

qualify for mayoral and
council candidates.
Aug. 21 - beginning date
to vote absentee.
Sept. 25 - last day to

vote absentee.
Oct. 6 - voting day.
Probate Judge Adrian
Johns said this week
that enumerators have
put the official head
count in the newly
incorporated town at
558.
“Everything is looking
good. We’re not hearing
anything from Perdido
Beach unless it’s from
those involved in the
(election) process,”
Johns said.
The Probate Judge signed
the order of
incorporation for this
110-year-old community
last month on June 10
following a referendum
on incorporation in
April. That referendum
passed by a vote of
192-113.
Johns said poll workers
for the Oct. 6 elections
have been set. Pam
Douglas will serve as
the polling site
inspector. Others who
will work at the polls
will be Harry Douglas,
Freda and Steve Fleming,
and Barbara Jenkins.
According to Johns,
notice of the upcoming
election has been posted
at five locations in the
incorporated area.
Susan McCall, who works
in the Probate Elections
Office, said forms for
declaration of candidacy
are available at the
Foley Satellite
Courthouse.
Al Thompson, who has
been involved in the
incorporation effort,
said this week he plans
to seek a seat on the
town council.
“I’ve heard a few people
talking about it,” he
said of seeking public
office in the new town,
but added that nothing
is official at this
point.
Among those Thompson
said have voiced
interest in seeking
public office are Patsy
Parker for the mayoral
post. Parker has been an
officer within the
Perdido Beach Property
Owners and Residents
Association, the group
that spearheaded a
January 2008 survey in
the community to
determine feelings
concerning
incorporation.
Also, Thompson said
Ronnie Resmondo has
voiced interest in
seeking a council seat
as have a couple of
other people.
